Charpentier and Doudna Receive 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research
Emmanuelle Charpentier and IGI Executive Director Jennifer Doudna have won the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research for their contributions to the development of CRISPR-Cas9, a genome-editing technology that “allows genes to be modified with great precision and simplicity in all types of cells,” enabling genetic information to be rewritten and “defective genes to be corrected very economically with an unprecedented level of precision.” King Felipe of Spain will preside over the award ceremony on October 23, 2015, in Oviedo.
