Automating SARS-CoV-2 Variant Calling with LatchBio
A case study on streamlining a complex bioinformatic process in the IGI Clinical Laboratory
During the peak of the COVID pandemic, the IGI launched a new next-gen sequencing laboratory to determine the genomic variants of positive COVID samples from around the Bay Area, as a follow-up to the core COVID testing being performed at the IGI Clinical Laboratory. The IGI worked with LatchBio to automate the entire bioinformatics process of calling and reporting variants, to deliver results more rapidly and save valuable time for the already busy staff. A highly technical and labor-intensive process was quickly transformed into state-of-the-art infrastructure that lab staff could be trained on in a matter of minutes.
