Indel

Abreviatura de inserción o eliminación. Se refiere a la eliminación o adición aleatoria de nucleótidos de una secuencia de ADN. Esto puede ser suficiente para detener el funcionamiento de un gen (imagínese quitar una página del medio de un manual de instrucciones). Los indeles se producen cuando el ADN se rompe y la célula lo repara “de manera descuidada” en un proceso llamado unión de extremos no homólogos (NHEJ).
