We are studying the rate and pattern of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in farmworkers in Monterey county.
SHARE:
Farmworkers constitute an essential workforce. The vulnerability of farmworkers and their families to COVID-19 threatens to exacerbate existing socioeconomic disparities faced by this population and poses a threat to food supply chains throughout the United States.
In collaboration with Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas, we are launching a community-based testing program to monitor prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a population-based representative sample of Monterey County farmworkers, enrolling 5,000 participants over a six-month period. We will collect upper respiratory and blood specimens, as well as health interview data, to monitor real-time changes in prevalence and identify risk factors for infection in this population.
